Teenager seriously injured after motorbike crash

A 17-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Hankham on Sunday (March 25)

The smash happened at around 10.10am on Hailsham Road at the junction of Milton Street.

The teenage rider was travelling on a 125 Yamaha and was the lead motorcycle in a group of four.

They were all riding in the direction of Stone Cross when he left the road and hit a bus-stop pole, after mounting the grass verge.

Emergency services were called and the 17-year-old was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by the Sussex Air Ambulance.

He was transferred to Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, where he remains in a critical condition.

The Herald understands he had injuries to his head. chest and limbs.

PC Douglas Park from the roads policing unit said, “The rider was travelling with friends in a convoy of motorcycles when the collision happened.

“This has been very distressing for his friends and for his family.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw the four small motorcycles travelling along Ersham Road or Hailsham Road to please contact police.”

The road was temporarily closed between Shepham Lane and Hankham Road to allow access for emergency services.
