AN EASTBOURNE teacher has been recoginsed for his work to help children understand their consumer rights and responsibilities.

Helen Mackay from Hazel Court School in Eastbourne, together with Olly Sagar from Grove Park School in Crowborough, were presented with their awards recently by East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards team.

The two teachers have provided a huge amount of support and assistance with the work they do to help educate young people with special educational needs on their consumer rights.

This work includes helping with the development of the consumer challenge quiz which is run by Trading Standards in both mainstream and special schools across the county.

The quiz is both fun and educational and helps the pupils to understand a wide variety of consumer issues.

Olly and Helen have also helped to develop the wise guys website (www.wiseguys.org.uk), which was first established to help young people with special needs to better understand consumer and money issues.

The chairman of the county council, Chris Dowling formally presented the teachers with their Trading Standards Hero Awards at a special ceremony held at The Amex Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Albion FC near Falmer.
