Tea parties tackle isolation

LOCAL Bupa care homes in and around Eastbourne are using Britain’s favourite brew to reach out to older people in the community who may be in need of a friendly face.

Care homes in Polegate and Eastbourne are taking the lead by hosting tea parties for Communi-tea Week (March 12-18), a nationwide campaign which uses tea-themed social events to help tackle the problems of isolation and loneliness in older people.

Elstree Court Nursing Centre in Eastbourne is hosting a series of tea parties, including a visit from a local storyteller to entertain residents and visitors, from March 12-14.

Home manager Caroline Soriano said, “Reaching out over a cup of tea could make a real difference to anyone feeling lonely or who may be struggling on their own, so Communi-tea Week is all about getting together over a friendly cuppa.

“Anyone who wants to come along and join us will be guaranteed a warm welcome. ”

The Polegate Nursing Centre and Haven Nursing Centre both welcome guests on Friday March 16.
