SUNLOVERS are making the most of some last minute sunshine as Eastbourne basks in an autumn heatwave.

Beaches along Eastbourne seafront have been packed this week as residents and visitors enjoy the unusually high temperatures not normally seen at this time of year.

Temperatures across the country have soared with Eastbourne and the south east sizzling in 80c heat.

As experts predicted the record breaking conditions would continue over the weekend, hoteliers and businesses were bracing themselves for a busy weekend as sunseekers head to the coast.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure Neil Stanley said he was confident the late summer and sutumn heatwave would see more visitors.

He said, “Being the UK’s sunniest place, we are absolutely loving the Indian summer in Eastbourne and definitely making the most of the brilliant forecast for the next few days.

“The beaches and seafront have certainly been busier than usual for this time of year and we’ve extended the deckchairs, sunloungers and lifeguard operation over the weekend, and tomorrow night’s tribute concert at the Bandstand has sold out.

“We’ve already been working with several of our hotels and guesthouses in Eastbourne to put together some great last minute special offers on our website to entice visitors for a short break in the town over the next week. Boasting more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in the UK, I’m sure we’ll be the number one choice for visitors wanting to bask in this late summer sunshine!”
