Stars from London musicals wowed a delighted audience at West End Gala Concert at the Congress Theatre, writes Harry Pope.
This excellent production was staged in memory of the late Bernie Nolan, who starred in panto in Eastbourne shortly before her death, with all profits going to Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Show-stoppers I Dreamed A Dream, Maybe This Time and Think of Me were superbly delivered by Francesca Leyland, Sarah Earnshaw and Charlotte Scott with vibrant, expressive renditions.
Award-winning Hairspray star Leanne Jones, Alice Fearn, currently appearing in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Savannah Stevenson from Wicked and Eastbourne’s 12-year-old Isabelle Allen, who recreated her role of Cossette from Les Miserables, also earned sustained applause. Clare Rickard (Cats) and David McMullan (The Book of Morman) treated us to a comic performance of ‘Song That Goes Like This’. Clare and compere Sue Holderness both coped well with temporary microphone malfunctions, with Sue joking it was because the mike was tucked down her knickers! The dynamic West End Gospel Choir and talented students from Moira House also shone.
