Money raised by a sponsored walk by heart patients, hospital staff and members of the British Heart Foundation last year has been presented to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at Eastbourne DGH.
Current and ex cardiac rehab patients, their friends and family walked either three or six miles along Eastbourne seafront and raised £4,187.24 which has been divided equally between the Cardiac Rehab Unit and the British Heart Foundation.
Phillippa Acton, Cardiac Rehabilitation Sister, said, “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the sponsored walk last summer for helping to raise so much money. We will be using our share to buy some new gym equipment.”
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit helps people who have suffered a heart attack or have heart disease to achieve their full potential in terms of physical and psychological health. Their work involves a structured programme of education, psychological support and exercise training, leading to a behavioural healthy lifestyle change.
The walk is an annual event and this year will be held on Sunday July 19 at 10am. Anyone who would like to take part should call the Cardiac Rehab Team at the DGH on (01323) 417400 extension 6238. Sponsorship forms available on 01323 486415.
