A blanket of early morning snow has caused problems on the roads across Eastbourne.

Between 6.30am and 7am on Tuesday (January 20), police received calls about issues with snow on the A259 Eastbourne Road between Seaford and the Exceat Bridge at Cuckmere Haven.

A Ford Fiesta car rolled onto its side after going out of control on the hill. The driver, a man, was able to get out, but had sustained a whiplash injury.

Earlier, in the same vicinity, a Mercedes-Benz CL220 car became stuck between two lanes of traffic. The driver was unhurt and was later able to move the vehicle and continue his journey towards Eastbourne.

Some buses in the area were reported to have lost traction and become stuck, and gritters were deployed to help clear snow and ice.

Buses serving Carew Road, Upperton Road, Rodmill Hill and Enys Road were diverted, while all other services saw delays of 30 minutes or more.

Adverse weather was also believed to have led to traffic problems in the Polegate area, north of Eastbourne.

Elsewhere, the Eastbourne Academy announced an emergency partial closure due to adverse weather and delayed opening until 9.30am.
