SOAP STARS and other celebrities met fans at a charity football match at the weekend.
A crowd of 1,500 attended the fundraiser at The Oval, home of Eastbourne United AFC, on Sunday when a team of celebrities played against Eastbourne United Veterans.
Emmerdale Danny Miller, recently voted UK’s best soap actor, captained the team of stars of the stage and screen and scored a hat-trick in an 8-1 win.
Also taking to the field were Matt Lapinskas and Tony Discipline better known as the Moon brothers in EastEnders, Will Rush and Lucien Laviscount from Waterloo Road, Jay Khan and Anthony Quinlan from Hollyoaks and Elliott Tittensor from Shameless.
Neil Wainwright grabbed two goals for the Soapstar XI, while Quinlan, Lapinskas and Waterloo Road’s Dean Smith also found the net.
The stars showed off their skills in the match to raise £4,000 for the Tuesday O’Hara Fund, the Eastbourne charity which helps young adults with cancer and leukaemia, and the Eastbourne Community Responders.
Event organiser Richard Davis said the event had been a huge success.
He said, “The stars love coming to Eastbourne and enjoy the football and meeting the fans.
“It’s a great day out for the fans and a chance to meet the characters they see on TV.
“More importantly it’s about raising money for the charity.”
Sue O’Hara, who set up the charity in memory of her daughter Tuesday who died of leukaemia, said she was delighted with the turnout.
“It was very busy and really was a great event,” said Sue.
