An Eastbourne musician is one step away from a dream performance at the 02 Arena after making it through to the area finals of the Open Mic UK competition.
Alex Attrill wowed the crowd and the panel of professional judges at the regional showcase, held in The Hove Centre, Brighton last month, and will now sing his heart out to fight for a place in the national grand final, to be held at the 02 Arena in January.
Alex, a former ex-pro apprentice at Crawley Town Football Club and now a trainee PE teacher, stood out from thousands of acts who entered the nationwide competition, which searches for the best unsigned singer/songwriters in the country.
The winner of Open Mic UK will received a £5,000 cash prize to spend on the development of their act, while all those who reach the latter stages of the competition will have the opportunity to perform in front of guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.
The 21-year-old, who describes himself as a soulful pop singer, said, “It is an amazing feeling and experience to get this far in the competition. After getting rejections from other music companies, it is nice to finally be known in the music industry.”
The area final is on Saturday, November 30 at Ferneham Hall, near Southampton. For details, visit www.openmicuk.co.uk.
