Shop worker held at knife point

TERRIFIED shop workers were locked in the toilet by gun and knife wielding robbers last week.

Police are now hunting for the four men who stole cash and cigarettes from the McColls shop in Holly Place on Thursday (May 10).

The robbers were armed with knives and a handgun when they raised the Willingdon Trees shop at around 9.50pm.

They threatened the two women working in the convenience store before stealing cash from the safe and cigarettes from behind the tills.

The women were shut in a toilet cubicle and the men ran off across a field at the back of the shop towards Croxden Way.

The women were unhurt but shaken by their ordeal.

Police are now appealing to witnesses to get in touch and help catch the armed robbers.

The suspects were all wearing balaclavas, gloves and slip on plimsoll style shoes. Two of them had large carving style knives and one had a silver coloured handgun.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams said, “We are appealing for witnesses who saw the men approaching or fleeing the shop or anyone who saw any suspicious looking vehicles with four men inside.

“We would like to reassure the community that such robberies in Eastbourne are rare but anyone who has any information should contact Sussex Police.”

Anyone with any information about the incident or the men involved is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 1641 of May 10.

Alternatively, people with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
