Hailsham’s mayor officially opened a new pop up shop in the town centre – and its main currency is information.
The shop will be open until early May to provide details on plans to revitalise the town and gain feedback from the public on future development.
The shop and information centre at 26 Vicarage Field has been set up by Hailsham’s Town Team, which is also known as Hailsham Forward – a community partnership which aims to find the best ways of breathing new life into the town centre and industrial and retail parks.
The pop-up shop, which is staffed by town team members including local retailers, business representatives and Hailsham town councillors, will be open to the public from 10am to 3pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until Saturday May 11.
Hailsham Forward is keen to hear the views of local residents and businesses on its key objectives for Hailsham in terms of improving aspects of the town centre and shaping its future, and is conducting a survey overing the economic revitalisation of the business community.
Mayor Jo Bentley said, “I would encourage people to come along and learn about Hailsham Forward’s objectives and priorities for the town and let us know about their views about the town centre, what services are needed in the high street and ways in which Hailsham as a whole can be improved and ultimately revitalised.
“I would like to thank all members of Hailsham Forward for the work they have put in to allow the public the opportunity to air their views.”
Wealden MP Charles Hendry said, “Hailsham Town Council is showing real drive and commitment to secure the revitalisation of the town centre. It gives local residents the chance to make their views heard and is a novel way to help the town, which shows the creative thinking going on.”
The Town Team has organised a separate forum for businesses – this is on May 8 from 6pm at the pop-up shop in Vicarage Field.
