Emergency services were kept busy in and around the Polegate area yesterday evening (Friday) following a spate of unrelated accidents,
Fire and rescue crews were deployed from Hailsham at 6.45pm to attend a collision between three vehicles on the A27 at Polegate and make safe after it was ascertained no one was trapped.
Then just after 7pm there was a collision on the A27 Polegate by-pass near Westham involving a car and a motorbike which led to the westbound lane between the A259 Pevensey Roundabout and the A2270 being closed while the scene was made safe.
Less than 30 minutes later, further along the same stretch of road, the eastbound lane had to be closed after a van, a motorcycle and another vehicle were in collision. One person was trapped, but was released by firefighters and taken to hospital by ambulance.
Again, part of the road had to be closed while 999 personnel were in attendance. Together, both A27 incidents caused lengthy delays for motorists.
