Second handbag snatch in Seaford – police investigate link

Police are investigating a second handbag snatch in Seaford within a few days – and are looking into the possibility they may be linked.

The second robbery took place at about 1pm on Thursday (February 13) in Hillside Avenue, Seaford, at its junction with Hythe Crescent.

A 75-year-old woman waiting for a bus had her bag snatched by a man who then ran into Hythe Crescent.

The thief is described as white, 5’8”, and slender. He is thought to have been wearing a grey jacket and a dark beanie-style hat pulled low down to his eyes.

The woman’s black-and-white handbag, made of plastic and fabric, contained a purse, cash and bank cards.

Detective Constable Steve Shimmons said, “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the suspect loitering in that area or running off after the attack.

“We’d also like to speak to someone who found a handbag earlier in the week and placed it through Seaford police station letterbox, as this has been linked to a robbery on Monday, 10 February in Bramber Lane, Seaford.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email, or alternatively to call the independent charity Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555 111.
