Rescue teams were launched on Thursday evening (October 8) to search Seaford Head after personal belongings were found close to the cliff edge.
Newhaven and Birling Gap HM Coastguard teams were tasked to search the cliff tops at around 6pm on Thursday after the discovery of items on the verge.
Newhaven Lifeboat prepared the inflatable Y-Boat for launch while making best speed to the position. Once close to Seaford Head, the Y-Boat was launched with two crew members on board.
The Y-Boat used its FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) camera and was assisted by the main lifeboat searching the area from Seaford Head to Hope Gap and back. Nothing was found.
A police helicopter joined but after a thorough search lasting more than three hours, all of the emergency services were stood down.
