Seaford’s mayor resigns from council due to ill health

Seaford’s mayor Anthony White confirmed this week he is stepping down from office on the grounds of ill health.

The Maple Fields resident, who has also decided to quit his role as a Seaford Town Councillor, says he has been suffering from Post-traumatic stress disorder, (PTSD) and it had got worse.

He told the Gazette, “I have resigned from the council due to ill health.

I have PTSD and the extra stress of being a councillor let alone the mayor has made my condition worse.

“The extra stress of the position has led to severe depression and has affected my home life. I just want to concentrate on getting better and having time to spend enjoying my family.”

He said he had thoroughly enjoyed his time as mayor and was proud that his last mayoral duty was honouring ‘true gentleman’ Don Mabey MBE. The 92-year-old’s funeral was held in the town on Tuesday.
