Police in Seaford have reacted swiftly to a spate of vehicle crime committed in the town during the early hours of Wednesday, January 28, with five youths from the Brighton area having been arrested on suspicion of theft from vehicles.

Three 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds have been interviewed and bailed until March 24 while enquiries continue. It is thought that betwen 25 to 30 vehicles were entered and searched across a large part of Seaford.

Neighbourhood policing team officer PC Ali Batchelor said: “We are confident that we have identified those responsible, but we still have a lot of further enquiries to complete.

“It is clear from what we know that none of the vehicles were broken into and that many, if not all, were insecure. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is for owners to always ensure that their vehicles are locked, no matter where they are parked. And they should never leave valuables in them, especially overnight.”
