East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said that at 3.43pm today (August 22), it was called to the fire in a derelict building on Homefield Road in Seaford. The fire is thought to have started in the roof space of the building. At its peak, fire engines from Eastbourne, Seaford, Newhaven, Pevensey and Preston Circus attended the scene, as well as the control unit from Lewes. There are no casualties and no-one had to be evacuated from the building, an East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed. Utilities in the building are still live and police were called because the fire was of 'doubtful origin', the fire service spokesman said. The owner of the building is currently being traced and an investigation into the fire has begun, the spokesman added. As of 6pm, firefighters were still trying to put out the fire.
