THE NEWLY-formed Seaford Bonfire Society (SBS) came up trumps when they visited Eastbourne’s celebrations and came away with the title of ‘Best Visiting Society’.
The group was in Eastbourne for the town’s bonfire and fireworks event and was awarded the accolade by the area’s MP Stephen Lloyd.
Society chairman Steve Russell said, “We are proud to receive this award on just our second out-visit.
“It is a testimony not only to the 35 members marched through Eastbourne but also to our members who have been working so hard in the background.”
The trophy is sponsored by the Pentacle Drummers who will provide the backbeat to the Seaford parade.
Spokesman Kevin Gordon added, “The boys and girls of the Seaford Society looked fantastic and we were all very well received by both the crowds and other bonfire societies.”
The Seaford celebrations will take place on Saturday October 22 with a torch-lit parade to the War Memorial and then to the Martello Fields for the bonfire and free firework display.
The march will begin from the White Lion Hotel at 7.15pm to the War Memorial.
Seaford mayor Linda Wallraven is to lay a wreath at the War Memorial before the procession continues into Broad Street, High Street and onto the Martello Fields where there will be a free bonfire and firework display at 8.45pm.
And it’s not too late to join the fun.
People can pay their subs at Badge Night will be held at SBS Headquarters, the White Lion in Claremont Road from 6pm on Friday October 21.
