PATRIOTIC youngsters took part in Eastbourne’s annual St George’s Day parade.

More than 400 Scouts marched from the Western lawns to St Andrews School in Meads, accompanied by the Kingfisher Scout band.

They were met on the school’s playing fields by the mayor of Eastbourne, Cllr Carolyn Heaps, and the town’s MP Stephen Lloyd, as well as the mayor of Polegate, Ian Kirby OBE.

A spokesman for Scouts locally said, “At St Andrew’s they provided a colourful spectacle for watching parents as they paraded their flags and renewed their Scout promises for another year.

“During the celebrations the older Scouts put on a re-enactment of the famous battle between St George and the dragon that tried its best to scare the audience.

“As always the Scouts held a collection for their chosen local charity this year and they raised £470 for the Care for the Carers’ young carers project.”
