A collection of some of the best comic book artists in the UK are among the attraction for a hotly-anticipated science fiction and horror convention being held in Eastbourne later this year.

WynterCon takes place at the Winter Garden between October 31 and November 2 and will likely see a band of costumed conference-goers descend on the streets of Eastbourne.

Events of this type are hugely popular in America and are becoming increasingly well-attend in the UK – with fans keen to meet their heroes – and WynterCon should provide a timely winter boost to the town’s tourist economy.

As well as a comic zone run by the some of the country’s best artists, including Al Ewing, Chris Weston, Frazer Irving, Laurence Campbell, Boo Cook, Simon Davis, Bob Molesworth, Nick Dyer and Tom Eglington, there will be table top gaming areas and a exhibitions of some eye-catching comic art.

An interactive Dr Who exhibit is expected to prove particularly popular while there will also be displays and demonstrations from some of science fiction’s best make-up artists and costume designers. And there is a host of evening entertainment planned to complement the day-time fun.

The Friday night sees organisers take over the Pier for a science fiction masquerade ball in Atlantis.

Then, on the following day, there is a choice of evening events. The Winter Gardens hosts a music night between 8pm and 1am complete with a selection of live bands and DJs, while from 7pm the Curzon Cinema hosts a night of classic horror flicks.

Sunday night between 7pm and 11pm at the Winter Garden is the official wind down party – complete with a film screening of two cult classics.
