Schemes aim to promote honesty and reliability

TWO SCHEMES in East Sussex that promote honest and reliable traders have recently boosted their numbers with 24 businesses receiving an official welcome.

East Sussex County Council recently held a joint approved trader ceremony to welcome businesses to its ‘Buy With Confidence’ scheme, and to its ‘Support With Confidence’ scheme, which involves social care and support services.

Trading Standards has approved 15 new members to its Buy With Confidence (BWC) scheme, bringing the total membership up to 385.

Proving good for consumers and for businesses, BWC, which was launched in 2004, has 49 applicants pending approval.

The BWC scheme is now one of the biggest in the country and members of the public can search for approved traders covering a huge variety of goods and services by visiting the website at or by telephoning Trading Standards on 08454 040506. Nine new members of the Support With Confidence (SWC) scheme, launched last year, were also officially welcomed.

The scheme now has 37 members, with 30 applicants pending approval. In order to join, the providers were interviewed by staff from Trading Standards and Adult Social Care.

Members also underwent training and were vetted in order to be able to join the scheme.

Members of the public needing services to help them live independently will now be able to find approved traders of care and support either by visiting the website at or contacting the Council on 0354 6080191.

Councillor Carl Maynard, Lead Member for Economy, Transport & Environment, said, “These support schemes underline our commitment to both protecting consumers and helping small and medium sized businesses across the county. “I am delighted that we have 24 new members on board with a further 79 applicants waiting to join either Buy With Confidence or Support With Confidence.”
