Scallywags needs help to ensure its long-term future

SCALLYWAGS Pre-school is facing difficulties and calling on the people of Eastbourne to help it survive.

The pre-school at the St Anthony’s Centre in Seaside has temporarily closed its doors because there are not enough people on its committee. The school currently has 24 children on its roll and has been running in Eastbourne for around 30 years.

Donna Hardy, supervisor at Scallywags, said, “We have found ourselves in a position where there are not enough people on the committee.

“We are now trying to look further afield for the help and support we need.”

The pre-school has shut its doors on Friday (March 18) but is hoping to reopen on April 26.

In the meantime, there will be an emergency meeting at the St Anthony’s Centre at 9am on April 4.

Anyone who thinks they can help or support the pre-school, which is a registered charity, is asked to attend the meeting.

Information about how people can help the pre-school continue will be available at the meeting.

Donna added, “Because we are a small community-based pre-school we need all the help and support we can get.

“It is very sad because we have had a lot of children through our doors over the years and we really want to continue.”

Parents are also sad and disappointed to see Scallywags under threat and have praised the staff for all their hard work over the years.

Anyone who would like to help but cannot attend the meeting should call Scallywags on 07821490227.
