A DOG who has helped find the cause of many fires in Eastbourne is off to Crufts.
Sam, a very talented fire investigation dog, will make a star appearance at this year’s Crufts Dog Show.
In the past six years he has investigated 16 suspected arson attacks in Eastbourne and many more across the county.
Now the loveable, but highly-trained, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service fire dog has a more high-profile assignment - showing off his skills in front of thousands of dog lovers.
Together with his handler Sarah Jones he will appear at the world famous event on March 10.
Spectators will be able to see what a valuable job Sam does when he attends fires where arson is suspected, as well as the close relationship between him and Sarah.
Sarah said, “Sam is such a happy little dog, full of life and enthusiasm.
“He loves his work and loves to play. We enjoy a very special relationship based on trust.”
Sam has been trained to locate a wide variety of flammable liquids and can even identify their presence amongst fire debris.
He also wears special boots when he’s working, as well as a reflective harness and line to prevent him getting into danger.
