Salon charity day in aid of NSPCC

PROFILE Hair and Beauty Salon in Grove Road, Eastbourne, held a charity day for the NSPCC, raised £104.

The day was organised by Sussex Downs College students who attend the i-project programme.

A host of treatments were on offer, including wash and blow dry using Paul Mitchell products, straightening and curling, head massage, together with hand and arm massage.

Owner and tutor Cathy Sandells said, “We have had a fantastic day, the team have really pulled together and have shown excellent organisational skills. I-project allows young people to really think about the careers they want to do and how college can play an important role in helping them gain qualifications. For example a former i-project student, Tammy Howes, has gone from strength to strength and is now completing a Level 2 apprenticeship in hairdressing.”

The students are on a 12-week course, spending one day a week in the salon training with hairdressers, with a second day in the classroom improving English, developing customer service and teamwork skills together with preparation for interviews.
