EASTBOURNE AM Rotary Club and Sussex charity SASBAH are today (Friday January 14) launching a fundraising Lottery project.

As President of the club, Hilary Lewis chose the Sussex Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, SASBAH, as her preferred charity for 2010-11.

SASBAH is currently trying to raise £40,000 for a desperately-needed new minibus to transport its service users across Sussex, in particular to its offices in Gun Hill, Horam.

Hilary - also the chair of SASBAH, which supports more than 500 families and individuals throughout Sussex - came up with the idea of a Lottery after the Rotary club ran a smaller scale project two years ago which sold around 2,000 tickets.

“The idea is simple, two organisations - Rotary and a local charity - working together to support the minibus appeal, a very worthwhile appeal for a very worthwhile Sussex-based charity,” said Hilary.

“Being President, I really want to achieve something which makes a real difference. ”

The launch of the lottery takes place this morning at AM’s weekly breakfast meeting, at Chalk Farm Hotel, Willingdon.

Eastbourne AM hopes to sell 3,000 tickets, while SASBAH has decided to become actively involved and hopes its supporters can help sell the rest of the tickets.

First prize is £500 cash, and there are numerous other quality prizes up for grabs.

SASBAH’s general manager Rom Sanglaji, who will be at the launch, said, “We are greatly indebted to Eastbourne AM Rotary Club which has supported us for a number of years.”
