Rotarians from the five Eastbourne Rotary clubs have presented a generator to the family of a disabled teenager after the original one that powered her bouncy castle was stolen.

Nineteen-year-old Taila Skinner was devastated after thieves broke into the garden of her family’s home in Langney Green last month and stole the blower and generator which inflated her bouncy castle.

The theft happened just days before the family was due to hold a party in the garden to celebrate Taila’s 19th birthday.

But they were so devastated the party was cancelled despite an offer of a temporary replacement by Eastbourne bouncy castle hire firm Bounce Bounce Whizz.

Rotarians from the Eastbourne, Eastbourne AM, Sovereign Harbour, Sovereign and Beachy Head Rotary clubs then heard of the family’s plight.

They rallied round and agreed to fund a replacement, which was ordered and delivered within days.

Representatives from the five clubs handed over the new unit to Taila and her mother Anna Maria Skinner last Saturday afternoon.

All the Rotarians said their clubs had been happy to help and that was what Rotary was all about – working together for the good of the community.

Anna Maria said, “This is just so kind of everyone.

“We are really touched by the Rotary club’s generosity.

“We were so upset when it happened and I just cried all weekend.

“The bouncy castle was one of the few pleasures Taila enjoyed in the garden.

“I am really grateful.”

Taila has Down’s Syndrome and autism as well as physical and learning disabilities.

The family had bought the bouncy castle and power unit for her six years ago and it was quite distinctive as it was metal in colour with a yellow plug lead.

Officers from Eastbourne Police were also at the house recently and marked the new power unit so it will be easily recognised if anything untoward happens.

If anyone has any information about the theft of the generator they should contact Eastbourne Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
