Roofing contractor, Clarke Roofing, has repaired and refurbished the entire flat roof areas of Eastbourne Mencap’s day care centre, The Hive on Pevensey Road – free of charge.

The building, that houses Eastbourne Mencap’s daily activity centre for adults with learning difficulties, had succumbed to weathering and damage over the years – a renovation project that was estimated to cost £11,000.

Eastbourne Mencap COO Paul Durrant said, “We were unsure about how we were going to manage to fund these necessary repairs.

“We were simply overjoyed when Clarke Roofing offered to do the entire job for free.

“It is unbelievably generous and very much appreciated.

“The lads from Clarke Roofing were fantastic, working through some of the most awful weather and finishing the job to perfection.

“We can’t thank them enough for their valued time, skilled workmanship and all the materials too.”

Frank Clarke, managing director of Clarke Roofing, said, “After inspection of the roof we knew it was going to be a fairly big but necessary job.

“We also know that Eastbourne Mencap is a hardworking local charity - providing an invaluable service to many needy people and their families in this town.

“It was a perfect opportunity to use our skills and expertise to contribute very positively to our community and to a charity that desperately needed our help.”

Frank and the team called on their contacts in the industry to help with the supply of materials for the project.
