Advanta’s Resident of the Month for September has been given to Eastbourne resident Roy Payton, known as Roller Roy, who has raised more than £8,000 for a variety of children’s charities including Children with Leukaemia, Children with Cancer Fund, Chestnut Tree House and Starlight.
Roy learnt to roller blade at the age of 78 and has since organised two Skatethons along Eastbourne seafront which helped raise funds. Roy hopes to organise another seafront skatethon in 2016, his 80th year, in memory of his daughter who died of childhood leukaemia some years ago.
Michael Cottingham presented Roy with this award for his fundraising achievements. Roy will also receive a complimentary meal for two at top local restaurant Ridgways in Meads Street.
