Retailers who could take over Eastbourne cinema site

Several High Street retailers are being targeted to take over the site of an Eastbourne cinema when it closes next year.

Cineworld at Sovereign Harbour Retail Park is due to close next year when the entertainment giant moves to the new cinema in the Arndale extension.

The owners want to turn the unit into retail outlets and say that although no specific retailer has come forward, formal marketing will begin if it is given the go ahead by Eastbourne council.

A planning statement submitted with a change of use application says, “A shortlist of potential target occupiers includes Smyths Toys, Go Outdoors, Wren Kitchens, Oak Furniture Land, Next, Boots or Sports Direct.”

Next, Boots and Sports Direct are all already located within the shopping centre and are being targeted to see if they want to relocate to the old cinema site.
