LITTLE Chelsea was filled with the sounds and sights of Christmas for the Little Christmas event on Friday.

Despite the sudden snow shower mid-afternoon, plenty of people turned out to support the event, which had been rescheduled from earlier in the month.

Santa made his appearance and met children throughout the evening in his Grotto in South Street and his reindeer joined Little Christmas too.

Although arriving later than planned due to the snowy roads and difficulty reaching Eastbourne, families and children flocked to meet the reindeer outside the Town Hall and had a chance to feed and stroke them.

With several fairground rides, market traders, a hog roast and plenty of food and drink in the area, organisers said visitors enjoyed the atmosphere and an opportunity to wander through a traffic-free Little Chelsea.

Entertainment included live performances from the Phoenix Choir, local band Wreck Central, Irish Dancers and the Ratton Stomp group.

The Little Chelsea Traders’ Association is holding a Little Christmas photography competition and has extended the deadline for entries to January 7 to receive entries.

Anyone who captured images on the night is invited to upload their pictures to the Little Christmas website –

The winner will be announced on January 11 and receive a printed canvas courtesy of Ashprint in South Street.
