The Devonshire West Big Local group is nearly ready for the first phase of Lottery funding.
Before then, there will be elections for a new board at the annual general meeting in November.
Two years ago, the Lottery awarded £1 million to Devonshire West to be used over 10 years on the condition that planning and organising had to be resident-led. A group of locals has been working on holding consultation events and writing a three year plan that represents the needs and wants of the community.
The Big Local team has a core group of people responsible for leading the work and making things happen. The existing board was elected in January, and new elections will be held on November 26 at St Augustine’s Hall, behind Christ Church on Seaside, from 7.30pm. Everyone in Devonshire West can go to the AGM and everyone will be able to vote. People are also invited to stand for election.
“We’re hoping as many people as possible will take part in these elections so they can feel Devonshire West Big Local really does reflect the community,” said Lorna Neville, community development officer. “It would also be great to have more people wanting to get involved, including standing for election.”
