Record-breaking cyclist is recognised for charity work

Advanta’s resident of the month award for August has been awarded to Robert Grew, from Eastbourne, who broke the world record for cycling 3,605 miles, solo and unsupported, from northern Norway to southern Spain in 39 days, 6 hours, 51 minutes and 59 seconds, breaking the previous record by 4.5 hours.

Robert’s marathon cycle ride was to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice and the Tuesday O’Hara Fund. Robert collected more than £1,330 in donations for the hospice and £882 for the local charity.

The Resident of the Month Award was introduced to recognise unsung heroes in the local community and is jointly sponsored by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald.

Malcolm Toghill was delighted to present Robert with the Advanta resident of the month award for his record breaking charity cycle ride.
