EASTBOURNE’S mayor Carolyn Heaps will do a parachute jump next week to raise money for the baby son of a parachutist killed in action in Afghanistan.

And the mayor is asking people to dig deep and each donate £1 for little Logan whose father Daniel Prior died in a bomb blast in Helmand in March.

The funeral of Private Prior, of 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, was held in Eastbourne where his parents Ian and Gillian live.

Baby Logan was carried into the funeral at St Saviour’s Church by his mother Emily.

After the mayor attended the funeral of Private Prior she decided to dedicate her parachute jump to the soldier and raise money for his son.

She will do a tandem jump with a Tiger parachutist at Salisbury on May 11 and hopes everyone will donate £1 to the Pound for Our Para Appeal in aid of baby Logan.

“It seemed the right thing to do,” said the mayor. “I want to get the community involved and show his family we are behind them. He gave his life for his country and died for us. I wanted to do something tangible to support the family.

“If everyone in the town gave just £1 each we would raise more than £80,000.”

Donations can be taken to the reception desk at the Town Hall.
