Owners of Charlie Chan’s in Brassey Avenue have applied for planning permission for a change of use of premises in The Broadway, near McColl’s.

The application comes after the Chinese food business was offered a new tenancy with ‘exorbitant rent’ – according to planning documents.

Architect Ray Caillé wrote in the application cover letter, “My client, Mr Choi, has received notice ending his tenancy, although he has been offered a new tenancy having an exorbitant rent.”

The letter says the situation has ‘forced [the owner] to move his business elsewhere’.

Mr Waishun Choi is therefore seeking permission to change the use of 14 The Broadway from a tea room into a Chinese hot food takeaway.

To view the documents, visit the Eastbourne council website, under the application number: 180882.
