Churchwarden Abigail Sargent believes this weekend’s event could be one of the best flower festivals ever.

She said, “The St Nicolas Flower Festival is always a highlight of our year, and this will be particularly special as it is the first since the church was so beautifully restored.

“Our highly creative team excelled themselves last year, when the theme was Storytime.

“Many will remember brilliant arrangements such as Thomas the Tank Engine, and the remarkable recreation of Mr McGregor’s Garden.

“I am sure that this year’s theme of memories will stimulate equally outstanding exhibits.

“Among others, there will be arrangements remembering the 1953 coronation and the moon landing, while much of the south aisle will be turned into a plant nursery.

“And there will be the customary cakes and other treats to be enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee.”

The flower festival will take place from August 25 to August 27.

Doors will open at 10am, except on Sunday, when Holy Communion will be held at 10am and the festival will reopen from 11am.

The exhibition will close at 5pm each day.
