War on export of live animals

A POLITICIAN is waging war on the export of live animals. Peter Skinner, who represents Eastbourne in the European Parliament, is lobbying the Government and the European Commission to demand the transport licence of Johannes Onderwater be suspended.

Onderwater is the biggest exporter of live calves from Britain, using an old soviet tank carrier to ship thousands of young animals abroad.

Mr Skinner said, “This cruel and barbaric trade is totally unnecessary. It is the Government’s job to enforce these regulations and they are clearly not doing that. Long distance transport causes unnecessary suffering, stress and even death.”
