Proposals would see the capacity of Cradle Hill Community Primary School grow from the current 420 places to 630 from September 2017.

The decision was deferred in mid-June so the lead member at East Sussex County Council could receive more information on a petition submitted by residents back in March.

Subject to gaining planning permission from the project the lead member for education and inclusion, special educational needs and disability approved the project at a meeting last Friday (June 24).

An officers’ report explains that the emerging Lewes District Local Plan Joint Core Strategy allocates around 600 new homes in the town up to 2030.

Cradle Hill is described as a ‘popular school which has regularly been oversubscribed in recent years’, with 94 per cent of children attending the school living in the town.
