Former Eastbourne MP ‘stranded on other side of world’ due to pandemic
Former Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and his partner Cherine say they are stranded in New Zealand following the outbreak of coronavirus.
Mr Lloyd said on Twitter on Sunday evening, “Just been told by our travel agent Trailfinders that Singapore not accepting transit flights so Cherine and I stuck in New Zealand. Spent ages on the phone to Consulate. No answer. I know there are an awful lot of other Brits in the same boat. I hope UKgov sorting repatriation.”
Mr Lloyd said he and Cherine were staying with friends in Christchurch, which is on New Zealand’s South Island.
On March 12 he wrote, “I’ve been watching with some alarm as the coronavirus is continuing to spread. I am away from Eastbourne at the mo (the other side of the world) on a long break with Cherine but, as ever, Eastbourne is in my thoughts.
“I wanted to say to you all, do what Eastbourne does best - look out for each other. Take care now folks and - remember - wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.”
