Police warning after burglars target area of Eastbourne

Burglars have recently been taking advantage of windows being left open in warm weather to target homes in a specific area of Eastbourne.

They have either entered Langney properties or simply reached in to steal items that have included handbags, wallets, keys and war memorabilia.

Sergeant Mark Davis, of the Eastbourne Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “We’d ask residents in general, but those in the Langney area in particular, to be extra vigilant over such thefts.

“They should ensure all doors and windows are shut, locked and secure, and keep all valuables out of sight and out of reach.

“They’re also asked to report anything suspicious as soon as possible to allow officers to respond promptly.

“Even if only out in the garden, it is best to ensure houses are left secured against any opportunist intrusion.”

Further advice includes considering the installation of intruder alarms and registering property with www.immobilise.com to increase chances of it being returned if stolen and later recovered.

If a crime is believed to be in progress, dial 999 immediately and ask for police. Otherwise please provide information by emailing 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101.

Alternatively, details can be left with the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).
