The school summer holidays have seen the neighbourhood policing team for Shinewater, in Eastbourne, seize five uninsured motor scooters or mopeds.
The bikes were seized in three separate interventions from people using the bikes in the Shinewater Park area.
Offenders riding without insurance risk points on their licences and fines, and confiscation of their bikes at further cost until valid insurance is obtained. If they fail to do so, the bikes can be crushed.
NPT Sergeant Julian Williams said, “This isn’t about spoiling people’s fun. It’s enforced for public safety reasons.
“Often the riders are young people putting their own lives at risk by riding without helmets.
“There is also the anti-social aspect involved in damage to and noise nuisance within the park.
“The message is clear. The park is not a suitable place for trail riding. Those who wish to do so need to find private land and should always wear suitable protective equipment.”
