Police are investigating a spate of burglaries at hairdressers across the town.

Criminal targeted five salons in different parts of the town in the early hours on Wednesday (February 11).

Police have now released CCTV of the incident at The Grove Experience and are now appealing for witnesses to the burglaries and attempted burglaries.

At 3.05am an alarm went off at AJ Hair Design in Avard Crescent. When the owner, Allison Harris, arrived the door had been forced in and the till and computer had been knocked onto the floor but nothing had been stolen.

She told the Herald she was woken up by the call to her mobile phone.

She said, “We have an alarm that goes straight through to my mobile so we are fortunate.

“I went down there and the door had been smashed and my computer had been thrown on the ground. You could see they had tried to get it out but they couldn’t.

“They didn’t take anything. It is clear they were just after cash.”

Another break in was discovered at JR’s Cutting House in The Broadway just before 4am. The front door had been forced in. It is not known if anything was stolen.

Less than half an hour after the break in at Avard Crescent, at 3.30am a resident heard a smashing sound, phoned police and when they attended they found the front door of The Grove Experience hairdressers in Grove Road had been smashed.

Nothing was stolen but the till and computer had been moved.

The Grove Experience has posted CCTV images on Facebook.

The owner of Pistols Tattoo Shop and Demons Barbers in Seaside also reported the front door to the salon has been smashed overnight but nothing had been stolen.

Sheer Bliss beauty salon in Meads Street was also broken in to the same night. The front door was smashed and £15 petty cash was stolen.

Lastly, the front window of Bourne Barbers in Firle Road was also smashed overnight but no entry gained.

A witness has reported that a man was seen running off from the barbers before getting into a silver Renault Laguna which drove off down Manifold Road with no lights on.

The man was described as white about 5’ 9’, of slim build and aged about 24. He wore a blue hooded tracksuit jacket with yellow stripes down the sleeves.

Officers are looking at CCTV footage and carrying out house-to-house enquiries.
