Police are stepping up patrols around the Cuckoo Trail at Hailsham after more cocktail sausages laced with what appear to be slug pellets were found by a dog walker there on Monday afternoon (April 13).

Some were also found on the cuckoo trail, which is popular with dog walkers, last Wednesday (8 April) on a mile-long stretch from Hailsham to Polegate and handed into police.

Sergeant Mark Ritchie said, “We are stepping up patrols in the area and putting up signs along the trail and in local vets telling people to be vigilant.

“Thankfully we have received no reports of dogs having been poisoned. The motive for the sausages having been left out is not clear.

“If people do see these sausages or anything similar, we advise they pick them up and remove them using gloves or dog poop bags and report the day, time and location of where they found them to police.”
