Officers are investigating several incidents in the Upperton area in which women were sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

The incidents, which were first reported in December last year, took place close to a route used to access Eastbourne Railway Station and amount to indecent or inappropriate touching.

While no new incidents have been reported, officers are keen to hear from anyone else who may have been accosted or assaulted in similar circumstances.

Inspector Rachel Barrow, of the Eastbourne neighbourhood policing team, said, “It’s important that we’re able to build up a clear picture of exactly where and when such assaults have occurred, what happened and any details of the perpetrator.

“We understand that it may be embarrassing or upsetting to have to do this, but I cannot stress enough how vital it is that we have as much information as possible.

“Even something that may seem relatively insignificant or not worth bothering about is of interest, and all responses will be treated in confidence. We’re determined that no one should be subjected to any sort of behaviour that discomforts or offends them.

“We would, of course, also like to hear from anyone who has seen anything suspicious or who may have other details that could assist our enquiries.”

Any information can be passed to police by emailing [email protected] or phoning 101. Alternatively it is possible contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org).
