Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robber stole almost £6,000 from Willingdon Post Office on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 9am, the masked man entered the store in Wish Hill and threatened a member of staff with what is believed to be a screwdriver or a knife.

He demanded cash and fled the premises on foot with almost £6,000. The staff member was not injured but was very distressed.

The suspect is described as a white man, aged in his late 20s, who was wearing a bandana over his face. The bandana was of the American flag. He had been seen running from the direction of Coopers Hill immediately before the robbery.

Detective Sergeant Nick Chambers said, “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this man in the area or have any information to assist the investigation.”
