Surgings is the result of a new year’s resolution and is the realisation of a long-held dream by de Oliveira to have a published book.

The poems were written over eight years and those that were selected for the final edition were all in keeping with what de Oliveira felt accurately represented him as a poet.

He said, “Poetry is an integral part of who I am and this collection is incredibly personal.

“I turned to poetry in my early 20s to help me through a difficult period in my life. For me, poetry was a medium of expression as well a coping mechanism.

“My hope is that people read Surgings and see me – my uniqueness – and not just another poet.

“I also hope my poetry challenges perceptions and inspires people to see that there is more to life than materialistic things.

“Publishing this book has helped me realise an ambition and I hope in some way those who read it are inspired to get their work out there too.”

Surgings is available to buy via Amazon at £5.99.
