Poet to launch book
An Eastbourne resident has published his first work '“ Surgings '“ a poetry collection drawing inspiration from the classical greats.
Danny de Oliveira self published his book using Sussex-based publishing experts Gibson Publishing. He will launch his work on March 11 at 2pm to 4pm at The Works in Eastbourne’s The Arndale Centre, where he will be signing copies of his book. The launch will be open to everyone.
He lives and works in Eastbourne but has travelled extensively. He was born in Venezuela to Portuguese parents from Madeira, and has lived in South Africa and Namibia.
Surgings is the result of a new year’s resolution and is the realisation of a long-held dream by de Oliveira to have a published book.
The poems were written over eight years and those that were selected for the final edition were all in keeping with what de Oliveira felt accurately represented him as a poet.
He said, “Poetry is an integral part of who I am and this collection is incredibly personal.
“I turned to poetry in my early 20s to help me through a difficult period in my life. For me, poetry was a medium of expression as well a coping mechanism.
“My hope is that people read Surgings and see me – my uniqueness – and not just another poet.
“I also hope my poetry challenges perceptions and inspires people to see that there is more to life than materialistic things.
“Publishing this book has helped me realise an ambition and I hope in some way those who read it are inspired to get their work out there too.”
Surgings is available to buy via Amazon at £5.99.
