Eastbourne residents can get down and dirty this May Bank Holiday weekend with a wide range of hands-on events and activities taking place across the town.

From oily vintage motors and boating sea spray to romantic pictures on the beach, the Bank Holiday features a wide range of activities for those looking for some fun in their free time.

There will be organised events, including a firework launch, a Legends Tribute Show at the Bandstand on Friday, May 1 and a performance of ‘Dirty Dusting’ at the Royal Hippodrome on Saturday, May 2.

The fun show stars ITV Benidorm’s Crissy Rock and tells the tale of three cleaning ladies, past their sell-by date, who start up a telephone sex chat line in a feel-good comedy.

Eastbourne Borough Council Senior Head of Tourism and Enterprise Philip Evans said, “We’ve a thrilling weekend in store this May Bank Holiday, from getting your hands dirty with paints at Towner, to horrible histories, cheeky cocktails and romantic escapes. Pack a huge suitcase, as you’ll need it.”

Motoring enthusiasts can bring an oily rag and inspect the engines at Magnificent Motors on May 2-3 on Eastbourne’s seafront Western Lawns, which features over 400 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, vans, military and steam engines. On Sunday night, Arlington Stadium offers even more high octane thrills with Eastbourne Eagles speedway racing in a national league fixture on the dusty track.

Sussex Voyages offer adventure boat trips from Sovereign Harbour to Beachy Head and high-speed thrills, while a quiet wander along the prom provides the opportunity to sample food on offer at the Continental Market from May 1-4, perfect for a picnic on the lawns.

The Redoubt Fortress and the Towner are also hosting events. For more information on these and many other activities going on in town during the Bank Holiday weekend, visit
