Take advantage of the Wealden Tourism website, and make the most of the coming year.
A Food and Wine Festival, Coast and Country Walking Week and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the District’s favourite walk, the Cuckoo Trail, are planned for the coming year. There are also many festivals taking place in Wealden’s towns and villages.
All the latest information about events and festivals can be found on the Wealdendo-Sussex website . It lists different activities throughout the year, under the categories of art and literature, coast and countryside, events and leisure. A printed 2015 Attractions Guide, including details of local accommodation, will shortly be available for downloading from the website.
The Cuckoo Trail was originally the Cuckoo Line, the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway Line’s link between Eridge and Polegate. The main stretch was closed in 1965, although trains continued to use the Hailsham –Polegate link until 1968. This year’s Coast and Country Walking Festival will take place between Saturday September 26 and Sunday October 4.
National anniversaries such as Magna Carta and the Battle of Waterloo are expected to find local resonance. Four of the witnesses at the sealing of Magna Carta were also witnesses at the sealing of Pevensey’s Royal Charter eight years earlier. Pevensey’s Royal Charter can be seen at the Court House Museum.
