Hailsham Tennis Club celebrated the eve of Burns Night with a fun-filled quiz evening.

Social Secretary Lynn Vincent, abetted by her husband Xavier and Debbie Hughesman and Chris Packham, provided a superb spread of food as Question Master Manny Galitzine set the questions.

Bangers and beans and baked tatties were the order of the day, with delicious shortbread to follow.

Seven teams fought it out, with questions ranging from Spot the Robot to a Scottish knowledge round, in which the teams learned that the second highest mountain in Britain is Ben Macdui! All the teams managed to score over 100 points with the Assorted Nuts eventually prevailing and winning the hamper of Scottish tasties.

The evening turned in a profit of more than £200 to help fund new team shirts for the successful Men’s Team, which has entered the National Aegon League.

Play continues all year round at the club, with floodlights for evening sessions on the four all weather courts. Sometimes the snow needs to be swept away, or icicles knocked off the nets, but the Hailsham members are a hardy bunch, not put off by a little cold weather.
