A PHARMACY completely destroyed by fire last year finally reopened its doors this week.

Boots Pharmacy at the Crumbles Retail Park opened for business again on Wednesday morning. The pharmacy had been operating from a temporary unit in the car park of the retail park since fire ripped through the building in December last year.

More than 80 firefighters were at the scene at the height of the blaze which broke out behind Boots and quickly spread to neighbouring stores Next, Matalan and Sports Direct.

Two teenagers were arrested within days and are currently on police bail while investigations take place.

All the stores in the block of the retail park had to throw away thousands of pounds of smoke damaged stock and the Boots store had to be completely rebuilt. Both Next and Matalan underwent major refurbishments before reopening.

On Wednesday Eastbourne’s deputy mayor Margaret Salsbury was given a tour of the new eco store by Alex Gourlay, the chief executive of the Health & Beauty Division at Alliance Boots.

Store manager Keith Labourchardiere said, “Re-opening our Sovereign Retail Park store is extremely exciting for us as we’re able to continue to offer our customers a fantastic shopping experience, along with an even broader range of products and services.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming new customers and old customers back to the store.”
