Perilous animal rescue in Eastbourne town centre

Firefighters were called to rescue an animal in peril in the town centre.

Two fire engines, including an aerial ladder platform, were called to the scene at 10am after reports a cat was stuck on a roof in South Street.

The fire service said the property owner had reported the feline had been stuck there for a number of days.

Crews were spotted in Cornfield Terrace later that afternoon, with the ladder extending to dizzying heights in the strong winds.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters left the scene at 12.30pm, but did not confirm if the cat had been saved.
